Alana Anuhea Nakahara Piliere

 Anuhea Nakahara Piliere’s entire professional career has been spent in academia, working to educate and serve the Native Hawaiian population. Currently, she works for the University of Hawaiʻi as a Distance Education Academic Support Specialist at Kauaʻi Community College. In her current position, Anuhea’s focus is on supporting Native Hawaiians who want to pursue higher educational opportunities while on Kauaʻi.  

 Born and raised on Kauaʻi, Anuhea’s work with the University of Hawaiʻi West Oʻahu and Kauaʻi Community College is particularly meaningful to her as it allowed her to move back to Kauaʻi with her family, to reconnect with and serve her island community.  

Recently, Anuhea has also served as an instructor with Na Pua Noʻeau and Mālama Hulēʻia teaching Intro to College Course, where the curriculum was focused on blending introductory college skills and ʻāina-based learning.

Prior to her current position with the University of Hawaiʻi, Anuhea worked as a teacher for over a decade at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama. At Kamehameha, Anuhea taught transitional courses for new freshmen where the curriculum was focused on executive functioning skills and social emotional learning with continued support throughout their high school journey.  

While her entire professional career has been spent in education, Anuhea continues to strive to learn and connect to Kauaʻi, her educational community, and her ʻohana’s cultural practices.
